  1. Oorah & Promise Keeper

Dennis (k1ypp) was one of the best people we met on our 2007 AT thru hike. We were really sad when he had to drop, but were extremely happy he was able to get back out and finish. We just ordered the book and can’t wait to read it. He was great fun to hike with and we know this will be a fun read. It was pretty cool to see him set up his hammock and radio on a mountain top, then talk with people all over the country (and I believe the world) via Morse Code. Stories went up the trail about him chasing a bear away from hikers when it was trying to get their food and the rattlesnake striking his hiking staff. It will be great to hear accounts of his journey first hand. He’s an interesting hiker and we’re glad he put his adventure in a book for everyone to enjoy. This will be fun! Good job Dennis!

I was equally disappointed that I didn’t catch up with Promise Keeper and Oorah and do the flip-flop with them at Harpers Ferry. Such is life on the trail.

Congratulations Dennis on the publication of your book. As I said before, it is “no walk in the woods.”
Good luck on your sales and typos. Now I’m ashamed that I didn’t catch more. My bad. Grace

Most of the typos were very subtle and in some cases were correct, but there was a better way of writing it. It was also a good point to add Margo’s name in the text, she did save my life and I really wanted it in there.
As for the “naked” bear incident, I haven’t tracked her name down yet!

The book was a welcome surprise! Being a couch potato in good standing, I expected (but kept it quiet 🙂 to pick it up, read a chapter, then put it down and forget to read the rest. Not so! I kept picking it up and kept reading. It has a wonderful flow to it and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about a part of life I’m a complete stranger to.

I ate this book up! Such a refreshingly honest account of the AT full of mirth and adventure. I chuckled and laughed aloud as I watched the trail unfold on every page, re-living the through-hiker experience through K1’s eyes. A truly enjoyable read outlining the bizarre experiences and incredible challenges only a hike on the AT can afford. Cheers, K1, on the publication of your book. Thanks for a gem of an experience, typos and all, as I reminisce on the AT adventure and all the truly wonderful and talented people I met out there!
